184pp., illustrated throughout with colour photos., orders of battle, maps. 2011, reprinted 2016. Major General John Drewienkiewicz and Adam Poole present a ground-breaking study of Gettysburg. True to the purpose of this series, this study provides a carefully analysed account of the major phases of the battle together with wargames using Fire & Fury Regimental rules and 15mm figures. As one always hopes from this combined approach, much is better understood and learnt about the course of the battle, particularly the importance of artillery and the failures of handling the new three Corps Confederate army. For that matter, much is also learnt about wargaming! Although there are many books on Gettysburg, there is no other quite like this and any wargamer or Civil War historian will find it a beautifully written and stimulating addition to the library.
