Nel sottosuolo si è trovata la risposta alle insidie aeree in caso di guerra e anche nelle architetture sotterranee vecchie di secoli e di millenni si sono trovati spazi adeguati per i Rifugi Antiaerei. Il volume illustra taluni aspetti della protezione dei civili e documenta i locali sotterranei di proprietà del Comune di Milano adibiti a rifugi antiaerei pubblici nel primo anno della Seconda Guerra Mondiale. La base del lavoro è la documentazione prodotta dal Comune di Milano nel 1940 in cui sono contenute 135 schede di edifici, qui commentate e riprodotte integralmente.

The answer to air raids in the event of war have been found underground; structures over centuries old, provided adequate space for air raid shelters. The book illustrates certain aspects of the protection of civilians and documents the underground premises owned by the City of Milan used as a public air-raid shelter in the first year of World War II. The basis of the work is the documentation produced by the City of Milan in 1940, which contains 135 plans of buildings, here commented and reproduced in full.
