The large NATO exercise REFORGER 77 / Carbon Edge was conducted in autumn 1977 by USEUCOM, the headquarter of the American forces in Europe. The aim was the proof of strategic mobility. Two parallel exercises were based on the reinforcement of American forces in a short period of time and a battle exercise. This multinational exercise was the largest exercise in the seventhies and was never topped.
